It is iʾsār (altruism). (Taʿarruf, 66)
Poverty (faqr) is the emblem of the friends of God (awliyāʾ), the adornment of the pure (aṣfiyāʾ), and the preference and choice of the God-conscious (muttaqīn) and prophets by the Real (al-Ḥaqq). The poor (fuqarāʾ) are the purity among Allah's servants and the secrets among His creation. Through them He protects His creatures, and by their blessing He provides sustenance to creation. The patient poor will be in Allah's assembly on the Day of Resurrection (Qiyāma). (Qushayrī, 133)
Shiblī said: The weakest sign of poverty (faqr) is that even if the whole world (dunyā) belonged to a person, he would spend it all in a single day. If it then occurs to him to regret not having kept even a day's provision for himself, he has not shown true fidelity in poverty (faqr).
I heard that Master Abū ʿAlī Daqqāq said: In any case, it is good to speak about poverty (faqr) and wealth (ghinā). But in my view, it is better for a person to be content with either one.
