These are the seven attributes that lead to mubāhāt (self-admiration), tafākhur (boasting), and takāthur (being deluded by abundance). In essence, these are darknesses. For anger (ghaḍab) is the ruin of the intellect. It is fitting that this is its highest surge, for anger often overwhelms shahwa (carnal desire) as well. So much so that, when anger is aroused, it disregards carnal desires and becomes heedless even of the desired pleasures. Yet carnal desire can never withstand surging anger. (Mishkāt, 87)
