Hitām (end, completion; spiritual station) refers, in rare cases pertaining only to created beings (maḥlūq), to the realization (taḥaqquq) in the reality of Allah, the Possessor of Majesty and Bounty (Dhū’l-Jalāl wa’l-Ikrām), until one reaches the goal. When viewed as a whole, all things belonging to Him are thus. In fact, in detail, they belong to Allah. For this reason, the perfect human (insān-i kāmil) ascends towards greater perfection, because Allah has no end. The walī (friend of God) also continues to ascend until reaching the Essence (Dhāt) of Allah. (Insān, II, 97)
The station (maqām) of hitām is related to all stations of proximity (qurbiyya). For, with the walī attaining the pure station of proximity (qurbiyya), it consists in the completion of the stations of the awliyāʾ (friends of God). This station encompasses all the stations by which the created being reaches Allah. For this station is included among the stations of proximity (qurbiyya) to Allah. It ends with the walī attaining all the stations of creation. The walī has a share in it from the stations of friendship and love. Thus, in this station of proximity (qurbiyya), there is hitām—completion, reaching the end.
