The possessor (ṣāḥib) of the science of imagination (ʿilm al-ḥayāl) is both connected and disconnected. This is one of the important characteristics of maʿrifa (gnosis, experiential knowledge of God). This is the science of barzakh (the isthmus), the science of the bodies in which spirituality (rūḥāniyya) manifests, the science that leads to paradise, the science of divine manifestations that will occur at the Resurrection (qiyāma) in the forms of imagination, such as the coming of death in the form of a ram, the science of the appearance of meanings that do not subsist as bodies with their nafs (the lower self), the science of what people see in the world of light, the science of the time in which the people (khalq) are found after death and before resurrection, the science of forms. Through this science, the forms seen in luminous bodies become manifest. (Futūḥāt, TI, 305)
