The ʿilm al-Lawḥ al-Maḥfūẓ (knowledge of the Preserved Tablet) is a portion derived from the knowledge of Allah, the Exalted. Allah conducts this knowledge according to the order of ḥikma (divine wisdom). Its operation corresponds to the requirements of the ḥaqīqa (inner realities) on the aspect of created existence. Beyond this, Allah possesses a knowledge that pertains to the aspect connected to the Real (al-Ḥaqq), in accordance with the requirements of that side.
This type of knowledge is not fixed in the Lawḥ al-Maḥfūẓ. However, when it is about to manifest in the visible world, it becomes apparent in the Lawḥ al-Maḥfūẓ; after its manifestation in this world, it ceases to be seen there. In the Lawḥ al-Maḥfūẓ, everything from the knowledge of the beginning of the existence of this contingent world to the qiyāma (Resurrection) is present. The knowledge of the people of Paradise and Hell in the Lawḥ al-Maḥfūẓ is not detailed, for such knowledge signifies the manifestation of qudra (divine power).
