Because of its existence, it has not attained its origin. However, His decree is enduring, His essence is fixed, and the Real (al-Ḥaqq) is both shāhid (witness) and mashhūd (the one witnessed; both witnessing and being witnessed). It is not possible for Allah, the Exalted, to swear an oath by something that is not Himself. For that by which an oath is sworn is He who is worthy of ʿaẓama (majesty). He does not swear by anything that is not Himself. (Futūḥāt, II, 474)
