Intibāh is the removal of heedlessness from the qalb (the heart). (Hujwīrī, 467)
One of the Sufis has said: Intibāh comes at the beginning of the ḥāl (spiritual states) that lead a person to good. When a person awakens from the sleep of heedlessness, this brings him to yaqẓa (wakefulness; a spiritual state). When he attains the state of yaqẓa, this alertness causes him to desire the right path. When he realizes that he is on a path other than that of the Truth and wishes to go to the true path, he turns to the gate of tawba (repentance). Then, this state of intibāh brings about the state of alertness. (ʿAwārif, 278)
Intibāh is Allah's compelling the servant onto the path of ināya (divine favor). (Iṣṭilāḥ, 541)
