Irfān-i tām (complete gnosis) is that which is expressed by the ene (the 'I', or self) through bayān (clear exposition). For Allah, there is only one ḥaqīqa (inner reality). However, for the sālik (spiritual traveler), since the veil of humanity is cast over the light of maʿrifa (gnosis, experiential knowledge of God), delusion arises. That which is conceived by the intellect (ʿaql) is the maʿqūl (that which is thought), and the ʿālim (knower) is distinguished thereby.
