Izāle-i beyn means erasing the black thread between you and your brother. (Nafahāt, 191)
izār 1) What is izār? It is a veil, a covering drawn over the effect of divine power (qudra), and a veil of divine jealousy (ghayra). (This veil) is, in the Pre-eternal (Qadim), pre-eternal; in created beings (muḥdath), it is created, and it is the fifth universal reality manifest (ẓāhir) among existents. This is the manifestation of divine realities (ḥaqīqa) in the lordly forms within the immutable archetypes (aʿyān-i thābita), which are described as possibility (imkān). These are the loci of manifestation (maẓhar) of the Real (al-Ḥaqq). The relationship (nisba) of this manifestation up to this locus is known to none but Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He. The veil that is the barrier between us and this world, and which is called izār, is the word "Kun" ("Be"). However, by this I do not mean the letters kāf, wāw, and nūn. What I mean by this is the meaning by which this manifestation comes into being. (Futūḥāt, I, 101-102)
‘Izz (strength, honor, superiority) is essential and natural. From it arises love of leadership (riyāsa) and love of spiritual station (maqām). From these are born arrogance, boasting, anger, envy, rancor, zealotry, and tribalism. The nafs (the lower self) is attached to it. It is the apple of the nafs’s eye. The nafs loves it more than a mother loves most of her children. (Ādāb, 108)
