Fiktrāb; the locus of tribulation.
The state of kurb (proximity), is the state of the servant who witnesses with his heart Allah's drawing near to him. The servant draws near to Allah by gathering all his resolve in His presence through obedience to Allah and by continually engaging in His dhikr (remembrance of God), both secretly and openly. Servants in this state are found in three ḥāl (spiritual states): Some of them strive to draw near to Him through various acts of obedience, because they know that Allah is aware of them, is near to them, and has power over them. Another group are those who have not only known this state but have realized (actualized) it. As ʿĀmir ʿAbd-i Qays (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "Wherever I looked, I saw nothing closer to me than Allah."
The state of those who are people of greatness and ultimate realization is described in the account related by Abū Ḥusayn Nūrī to a man who came to him. When Abū Ḥusayn asked the man, "Where are you from?" he replied, "I am from Baghdad." When Abū Ḥusayn asked, "With whom did you keep company in Baghdad?" the man answered, "With Abū Ḥamza."
