If one accepts and takes pleasure in these, as in the following poem: "How sweet it is to me
To be blamed for Your desire
Let those who blame me be
Let them blame me for loving to remember You
I have become like Your enemies
I have come to love what they love most
For the pleasure they take
Is the pleasure I take from You
We have knowingly betrayed each other
O you whom those who make declarations despise
(Love has settled in me
Wherever You are
I can neither take a step forward with another name
Nor a step back) (Jāmiʿ)"
(At that time, the person) dies with mevt-i esved (the black death). This is fanāʾ fī Llāh (annihilation in God). By witnessing that the actions of people are annihilated in the actions of the Beloved, and by observing that the afflictions come from Him, one becomes fanāʾ fī Llāh (annihilated in God). This state is only attained by seeing one's own nafs (the lower self) and the nafs of others as annihilated in the Beloved. Then, it is a sign of the aid of the rank of Absolute Being.
