When maʿnā (meaning, inner sense) is cast into the mold of form and shape, sensation becomes intertwined with it. Thus, a space is created within it in which it can be observed, and it moves about therein. Then, it leads one to investigate that which this form is based upon, and that form becomes its body. I asked: What is the first thing a person who repents to Allah must do? He said: The first thing that someone who turns to his Lord and seeks His riḍā (contentment with God's decree) must do is maʿrifatullāh (experiential knowledge of God), maʿrifa.
