They are neither owners, nor owned. Junayd says: Sufism (taṣawwuf) is that God causes you to die to yourself and brings you to life by Himself. He also says: Sufism (taṣawwuf) is an attribute in which the servant resides. When he was asked, "Is it an attribute of God (Ḥaqq) or of creation (khalq)?", he replied: Its reality belongs to God (Ḥaqq), but its form is an attribute of creation (khalq).
Junayd also says: Sufism (taṣawwuf) is when the hearts do not return to weaknesses ever again.
