Maḥabbat-i lillāhi taʿālā (loving Allah), is the highest of the spiritual stations (maqām) and the summit of all degrees. Beyond maḥabba (love), there is no station (maqām) except for those that are fruits of maḥabba and the states (ḥāl) that follow it, such as longing (shawq), intimacy (uns), and contentment (riḍā). Before maḥabba, there is likewise no station (maqām) that can be considered its beginning, such as repentance (tawba), patient endurance (sabr), or renunciation (zuhd). (Kudāma, 361)
