What is the attribute of the melek-i âlâ (the highest angel)? The answer: It is a rūḥānī (spiritual being). In particular, inanimate beings cannot be described with this angel. It is the being most shadīd (intense) in obedience to Allah. It acknowledges that it is Allah's angel. Furthermore, Allah's angel is above everything other than Allah. However, the virtue in being an angel lies in knowing that one is an angel and in one's dealings with Allah being befitting of Allah's angel. (Futūḥāt, TI, 103–104)
