The menzil-i mushāhada (the station of mushāhada, i.e., direct witnessing) is unique; it is the level at which existence is in itself annihilated. That which is non-existent is fānī (transient), and that which is not annihilated is bāqī (subsistent). (Futūḥāt, 1, 235)
