Muhājir is one who abandons evil; mujāhid is one who struggles (mujāhada) with his nafs (the lower self) in the path of Allah, performs the prayer (ṣalāt) correctly—which is service to the Maʿbūd (the One worshipped)—spends his wealth both secretly and openly, whether little or much, and does not occupy himself with the commerce of the dunyā (this world). (Küt, 1, 218)
muhāḍara-mukāshafa-mushāhada (people of mushāhada; life of hearts; mukāshafa of knowledge—mukāshafa by ecstasy—mukāshafa of state; purity of the qalb (the heart))
ʿAmr ʿUthmān al-Makkī has said: Mushāhada (spiritual witnessing) is a point of connection between the seeing of the qalb and the seeing of the eye. For, during the unveiling of yaqīn (certainty), the trace of imagination increases in the seeing of the qalb. (Lumaʿ, 100)
Again, ʿAmr ʿUthmān al-Makkī has said: Mushāhada is to go beyond the domain of the qalb.
