ḥaqīqa (inner reality), despite the perfections (kamālāt) reflected upon them, are in essence the foundations of all evil and deficiency, namely the 'adams (non-beings, absences). This view requires detailed explanations that must be listened to with the ear of intellect... (Maktūbāt, I, 210)
O Revealer of secrets
You have shown mercy, O Most Glorious
You have saved us from strangers
my heart is in fire
my thought is in ḥayra (bewilderment)
my eyes are dazzled by light
We saw the Essence (al-Dhāt) in Your mirrors
If it were impossible to perceive
could we ever gaze upon Him?
while my strength is sound
Your meaning shines forth
thus my perception could reach You
it was only through witnessing You that I could see
the lightning of Your Essence flashed
since the manifestation of my love with Him
all else disappeared from my sight
my heart was polished and opened
The Essence (the Essence of the Real, i.e., God) does not accept description (naʿt) or attribute (ṣifa); nisba (relation) and attributions are removed from It. (Nafahāt, 54)
The Name Rabb (Lord) is authorized from the Name Raḥīm (the Merciful), the Name Raḥīm from the Name Raḥmān (the Compassionate), the Name Raḥmān from the Name Allah, and the Name Allah is authorized from the Essence (al-Dhāt). (Nafahāt, 62)
