Munecciyāt (those things that lead to salvation) include: repenting from sins and feeling remorse, exercising sabr (patient endurance) in the face of tribulation, showing shukr (gratitude) for blessings, practicing zuhd (asceticism) in the world, maintaining a state of khawf (fear) and rajāʾ (hope), being characterized by ikhlas (sincerity) and ṣidq (truthfulness) in obedience, loving Allah and showing reverence to Him, displaying riḍā (contentment with God's decree) regarding His actions, yearning for Him, submitting to Him, and exhibiting khushūʿ (humble reverence). (Iḥyāʾ, 169)
Muhlikāt (those things that lead to destruction) are ten in number; whoever avoids them will be safe from the others as well: miserliness, arrogance, ʿujb (self-admiration), riyaʾ (ostentation), ḥasad (envy), intense anger, excessive attachment to eating, drinking, and sexual relations, and love of wealth and status... (Iḥyāʾ, 171; Qudāma, 407)
The munecciyāt are also ten in number: feeling remorse for sins, exercising sabr in tribulation, showing riḍā regarding divine decree, shukr for blessings, maintaining moderation between khawf and rajāʾ (fear and hope), adopting zuhd towards the world, ikhlas in actions, good akhlāq (character) in dealings with people, loving Allah, and submitting to Him. (Iḥyāʾ, 171)
