Mushāhada-i jamāl (contemplation of the Divine Beauty), is one of the important and exalted maqām (spiritual stations) in which great divine gifts—lights, secrets, graces, delightful words, friendly expressions, and glad tidings—manifest to the qalb (the heart), and it is a state of nearness to Allah. Here, the servant has no involvement; the matter is entirely referred back to Allah. Everything is attributed to the primordial allotment. Whatever portion falls to one's lot as a mercy and confirmation from Allah begins to arrive. This continues for them in the dunyā (this world) until the appointed time of death. This is the decreed time of passing. The reason for this being granted in the world, as opposed to mushāhada-i ḥaqq (contemplation of the Divine Reality),
is so that, out of excessive longing for Allah, love does not reach the degree of ifrāṭ (excess). (Futūḥ, 22)
