müsterih

Müsterih refers to those servants to whom Allah has disclosed the secret of destiny (qadar). Such a person understands that everything decreed must come to pass at its appointed time, and perceives that whatever has not been decreed will certainly not occur. One who possesses this knowledge is thus freed from the anxiety of desire and expectation, as well as from sorrow over what has slipped away, and attains tranquility. As Allah the Exalted has said: "No disaster strikes upon the earth or among yourselves except that it is in a register before We bring it into being" (al-Ḥadīd 57:22). For this reason, it is reported that Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I served the Messenger of God (peace be upon him) for years. Not once did he say about something I had done, 'Why did you do it?' nor about something I had not done, 'Why did you not do it?'" (Musnad, II, 197; Awsat, I, 91). This attitude brings nothing to a person but relief from weariness. (Kāshānī, 84; Jāmiʿ, 98)
