Nafas-i Rahmāni (Rahmānic breath) is the source of life for this emergence (nešʾet, coming into being). It knows and perceives through the nafs-i nāṭiqa (articulate soul). By means of the faculty of thought, it explicates in detail what the Real (al-Ḥaqq) has summarized within it. It assigns to things their respective ranks and gives every rightful owner their due.
Nafas-i Rahmāni (Rahmānic breath) is a relative existence (wujūd) that is one with ḥaqīqa (inner reality), and it multiplies through the forms of meanings that consist of aʿyān (essences, individuated realities). Its states are at the maqām (spiritual station) of aḥadiyya (divine oneness). Although in essence it is simple in terms of the air contained in the breath, it is likened to the human breath, which changes with the forms of letters, and it is so named in view of the aim of bringing ease to the other names that come under the protection of the Name al-Raḥmān. This is like the potential existence of things being hidden within themselves and the human being attaining relief through breathing (inhalation and exhalation), as stated by Jāmī.
