Nūr-i aḥkām (the light of the rulings) is the nūr (light) of Islam in the qalb (the heart). For this nūr increases through sound interaction and correct spiritual striving (mujāhada), and it diminishes when one abandons living according to the sharia (the sacred law). It is likened to the moon, for the moon also waxes and wanes. (Bayān, 61)
