The Nūriyyūn (the Nūrīs) are the group attributed by nisba (affiliation) to Abū Ḥusayn Nūrī. Abū Ḥusayn Nūrī is among the earliest Sufi scholars. With his radiant hagiographies and definitive proofs, he is one of the most renowned of the Nūrīs. In Sufism (taṣawwuf), his views have been accepted and his methods preferred. The foundation of his school is to uphold Sufism (taṣawwuf) over faqr (spiritual poverty). His dealings are in agreement with those of Junayd. Preferring the right of one's companion over one's own (i.e., īthār) is one of the important characteristics of this tariqa (Sufi path). He considered companionship established without such preference to be forbidden. He said: "Companionship (ṣuḥba) among dervishes is obligatory. Seclusion (uzla) is not something to be praised." He also said: "Beware of seclusion! Indeed, seclusion is the companion of Satan. I advise you to keep company (ṣuḥba). Surely, in companionship is the riḍā (contentment) of the Most Merciful."
