rakve (leather water vessel): I saw an eleven-folded rakve (leather water vessel). – What the author means by the 'eleven-folded rakve' in this statement is the terrestrial globe. Nine of these folds are the nine celestial spheres (planets). Of the other two, one is air and the other is fire. Fire encompasses air, and both are encompassed by the celestial spheres. – (Jibrāʾīl, 144)
Yemenis call the rakve 'mushʿil' (lamp). I do not know where they got this name from. Perhaps they took it from the famous lamps they carried in the presence of dignitaries. For they would carry a large rakve (leather water vessel) in the presence of dignitaries, scholars, and shaykhs, and would provide them with water for ablution and purification. Allah knows best.
