It is the worship that is performed. For the elite (khawāṣṣ), it is ʿubūdiyya (servitude) that is fulfilled on the basis of carrying out the command solely because it is a command, without being swayed by aspiration or fear and without expecting any recompense, and by showing loyalty to what has been taught to the servant. For the elect of the elite (akhāṣṣ al-khawāṣṣ), it is ʿubūdiyya performed on the basis of turning away from strength and qudra (divine power), such that the lover does not allow anything other than Allah to enter his qalb (the heart).
One of the requirements of fulfilling the covenant of ʿubūdiyya (servitude) is to see that deficiency arises from oneself and returns to oneself, and to perceive no kamāl (perfection) in anyone other than one's Lord. (Kāshānī, 52; Jāmiʿ, 104)
