Rezīlet-i noksān (the ignominy of deficiency) is the disgrace from which the nafs (the lower self) that desires to attain kamāl (perfection) suffers. This desire depends on an attentiveness that can be acquired later through effort. Intellectual dullness is also close to this suffering. Intellectual dullness is the characteristic of disbelievers (kuffār), the negligent, and those who turn away from the truth that has been shown to them. This state is closer to perdition than a fruitless fatāna (intelligence, cleverness). (Ishārāt, IV, 30)
