The state of the night is based on satr (concealment). In terms of love, musāmara (intimate nocturnal conversation) is more perfect than muḥādatha (spoken discourse). (Hujwīrī, 462)
Muḥādatha is the address of the Truth (al-Ḥaqq) to the gnostics (ʿārif) from the realm of mulk (the world of dominion) and shahāda (the world of witnessing), as in the case when Allah called out to Moses (Hz. Mūsā) from the tree. (Istilāḥ, 535; Kāshānī, 81; Jāmiʿ, 97)
Musāmara is the address of the Truth to the gnostics from the realms of secrets (asrār) and the unseen (ghayb). "The Trustworthy Spirit (Rūḥ al-Amīn) has brought it down upon your heart." (Istilāḥ, 535)
Musāmara is the conversation of the Truth with His servant regarding His own secret. For, in customary usage, musāmara means to converse mutually at night. (Kāshānī, 83; Jāmiʿ, 97)
