rusūmu’l-ʿulūm and rukūmu’l-ʿulūm

Rusūmu’l-ʿulūm and rukūmu’l-ʿulūm are the senses (ḥiss, perceptions) of the human being. For these are the rusūm (traces, imprints) of the divine names such as ʿAlīm (the All-Knowing), Samīʿ (the All-Hearing), Baṣīr (the All-Seeing), and are veils of the human body hanging over the threshold between the Real (al-Ḥaqq) and creation (al-khalq), at the gate of the Abode of Permanence (Dāru’l-qarār). Whoever knows that his nafs (nafs, the lower self) and all its attributes are the rusūm (traces) and forms of the acts, attributes, and names of the Real (al-Ḥaqq), has attained knowledge of the Real.
