Ruvʿ-i nafsī is an ilqāʾ (spiritual casting or inspiration) that occurs in the qalb (the heart), attributed to the ṣadr (the breast), and realized through a zarf (envelope) or nizāʿ (conflict) belonging to the nafs (the lower self). It is written with rāʾ bearing ḍamma, wāw with sukūn, nūn with fatḥa, and fāʾ with sukūn. (Sofyavi, 6)

Rujūʿ (return): At the time when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was to part from the dunyā (the world) and all that is in it, during his journey to his Lord, the portions that had previously been withheld from him were returned to him. He, in turn, showed loyalty by following his Lord, displaying riḍā (contentment with God's decree) with His action, and fidelity to His command. His Names are exalted, His mercy encompasses all things, and His grace extends to all the awliyāʾ (friends of God) and anbiyāʾ (prophets). In this matter, the walī (friend of God) is the same (that is, subject to the rulings to which the Prophet adhered). Provided certain boundaries are maintained, the portions and maqāms (spiritual stations) are also returned to him. This is the rujūʿ (return) from nihāya (the end) to bidāya (the beginning) (a return from the end to the beginning). Allah knows best. (Futūḥ, 134)

This is His desire

to leave behind everything in the cosmos

never say that the ashyaʾ (things) are not with Him

there is nothing in existence but Him

be with Him

in all the ḥāl (spiritual states) of the ashyaʾ

and never be heedless

of witnessing Him

(Futūḥāt, MI, 219)
