ṣabīḥu’l-wajh (Sufism Glossary)

Ṣabīḥu’l-wajh is the person who is a locus of manifestation for the reality of the Name al-Jawwād (the All-Generous). The one who truly attains to this manifestation is the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). According to a narration from Ḥadhrat Jābir, the Prophet never said "No" to any request made to him. Through him as an intermediary, nothing asked from Allah remains unanswered. The Commander of the Believers, Ḥadhrat ʿAlī, alludes to this situation with his statement: When you wish to ask something from Allah, first send blessings (ṣalawāt) upon the Prophet, then make your request! For Allah does not accept one of two requests presented to Him and reject the other. One who attained the generosity of the Prophet was a person named Ashʿath. Regarding him, the Prophet said: There are many Ashʿath who are turned away from doors, but if he were to swear by Allah, Allah would grant his request (Muslim, Qasāma, 24; Abū Dāwūd, Diyāt, 28)...
