Ṣafāʾ-yi ṣaf (about which it is said:): It is to be stripped of maqām (spiritual stations) and ḥāl (spiritual states) and to reach nihāya (the ultimate end). Ṣafāʾ-yi ṣafāʾ is to remove contingent things (created beings) from the heart in order to witness the Real (al-Ḥaqq) with the Real, in a state of union. (Lumaʿ, 414)
