Sehāb (cloud) refers to ugly beliefs, false suppositions, and corrupt imaginings that act as a veil between the disbelievers (kuffār) and iman (faith). It is a barrier between maʿrifa (experiential knowledge of God) of the Real (al-Ḥaqq) and illumination by the light of the sun of the Qur'an and reason. The characteristic of sehāb is that it acts as a veil to the illumination of the sun's light. (Mishkāt, 88)
