Seyyāriyyūn (the Seyyāris) are those affiliated with Abū’l-ʿAbbās Seyyārī. He was the imam of the city of Merv in all the sciences. He was a companion of Abū Bakr Vāsitī. Today, there is a large community of his followers in the cities of Nasā and Merv. Except for his, the states (aḥwāl) of other Sufi (taṣawwuf) schools have changed. In the cities of Merv or Nasā, there has never been a time without a leader among his followers who observed the application of his school. This situation has continued up to the present day. There are beautiful letters exchanged between his followers from Nasā and the people of Merv. At that time, the people of these cities would correspond and converse with each other. I have seen some of these letters in Merv; they were very delightful. The foundation of their discourse was constituted by union (jamʿ) and separation (farq). (Hujvīrī, 300–301)
