The Secret of Destiny (ṣirr al-qadar)

The secret of destiny (ṣirr al-qadar, the secret of qadar) is something other than destiny (qadar) itself. The secret (sirr) is the very act of domination (taḥakkum) over created beings (maḫlūqāt). The Real (al-Ḥaqq, i.e., God) does not disclose the secret to created beings unless He becomes their very sight. When the Real becomes their sight, and they look upon things with the gaze of the Real, then the knowledge of things previously unknown to them is unveiled. For nothing remains hidden from the gaze of the Real. (Futūḥāt, II, 66)

The secret of destiny (ṣirr al-qadar) is what Allah, exalted is He, knows concerning the states that those who will become the possessors (ṣāḥib) of that essence (ʿayn) in pre-eternity and in its manifestations in the external world will have. Whatever Allah knows about the essence (ʿayn) in pre-eternity, He judges by it at the time of its actualization. (Kāshānī, 101; Jāmiʿ, 86)
