The secret of rubūbiyyat (lordship), is a secret connected to the marbūb (the one in need of a rabb, i.e., the servant). It is a nisba (spiritual connection) that pertains to two murīds (aspirants). One of these, the marbūb, is the aʿyān-i thābita (immutable archetype) in non-existence (ʿadam). That which is connected to the maʿdūm (non-existent) is also maʿdūm... (Kāshānī, 102; Jāmiʿ, 86) For this reason, Sahl al-Tustarī said: 'There is such a secret to lordship (rubūbiyyat) that, if this secret were to be revealed, rubūbiyyat would become bāṭil (null and void, invalid). Thus, this nullification is dependent upon it.' (Kāshānī, 102)
