The first subtlety of taʿẓīm (reverence) is to show taʿẓīm to the commands and prohibitions. This consists in not preferring ruḫṣa (dispensation) over ʿazīma (strict adherence). The second subtlety is to show taʿẓīm to the decree (qadar) by refraining from objecting to it due to any knowledge or purpose one may possess. The third is to show taʿẓīm to the Real (al-Ḥaqq) by not performing an act for any cause other than Him, by not knowingly and willingly violating His right, and by not seeing any right for oneself against Him in one's own self.
