Just as the Kaʿba is the sanctuary (ḥaram) of Mecca, so too is taqiyya the sanctuary (ḥaram) of the muʾmin (believer). One group has said: Taqiyya is a light (nūr) in the qalb (the heart) that distinguishes truth from falsehood. According to Sahl, Junayd, Ḥāris (al-Muḥāsibī), and Abū Saʿīd (al-Ḥarrāz), taqiyya is for a person's inner and outer selves to be the same. (Lumaʿ, 303)
