The elect (khawāṣṣ) of the Ahl al-Sunnah (the mainstream Sunni community) became renowned under the name of tasavvuf-ı hulki (ethical Sufism) for supervising their breath and nafs (the lower self) together with Allah, and for protecting their qalb (the heart) from the paths of heedlessness. Among them are Ibrāhīm Edhem, Fudayl ʿIyāḍ, Maʿrūf Karkhī, Sarī al-Saqaṭī, Bishr al-Ḥāfī, and Ḥāris al-Muḥāsibī. (Ravza, 614)
