Tecâfi means to remain inwardly detached from this world (dunyā, the abode of delusion), to turn towards the hereafter (ākhira, the abode of eternity), and to direct the essence of one’s himma (spiritual aspiration) to Allah. The realization of this state is only completed by turning away entirely from wealth and status, and by freeing oneself from all occupations and obstacles that hinder this. (Munkidh, 134)
