A person in the maqām (spiritual station) of tajarrud (detachment) should not pay attention to matters such as seeking a job, acquiring sustenance, or concerns like house rent, nor should they preoccupy their mind with such things. In order to avoid turning towards anything other than Allah, one must strive and engage in mujāhada (spiritual struggle) with the nafs (the lower self) on this path. Without such struggle with the nafs, a person of tajarrud cannot make progress. For, in order to advance through the stages, it is necessary not to turn towards anything other than Allah. (Anwār, 1, 82)
