Shuhūd (shuhūd al-mufassal fīʾl-mujmal; shuhūd al-mujmal fīʾl-mufassal)

Shuhūd is to see the Real (al-Ḥaqq) by the Real.

Shuhūd al-mufassal fīʾl-mujmal is to perceive multiplicity within the Divine Unity (ahadiyya).

Shuhūd al-mujmal fīʾl-mufassal is to perceive the Divine Unity (ahadiyya) within multiplicity. (Kāshānī, 154; Jāmiʿ, 87)

"Shuhūd is to see the Real by the Real." The mufti of Beirut, Mustafa Nejā, while commenting on Sayyid Jurjānī's statement in Kitāb al-Asrār, said: For He shows you His manifestations along with His other creatures. However, in this there is no incarnation or contact; there is no kind of anthropomorphism (tajsim, corporealizing Allah) or assimilation (tashbīh, likening Allah to created beings). Rather, He is as He is, and is exalted above anything unbefitting Him. As (al-Ḥaqq) manifested to our master Mūsā (peace be upon him) in the fire (cf. al-Aʿrāf 7:143). Mūsā saw the fire by the tree and heard a voice from there. (Rihla, 210)
