The meaning of kusūd is intentions and sincere resolves (irāda) that are close to making a determination (to undertake an action). (Luma, 446)
The aim of the Sufis (Süfīs) in kusūd is that the resolve (ʿazm) seeking the reality of the intended object (maqsūd) be sound. For this group (the Sufis), intention (qaṣd) is not tied to movement or stillness. For if the lover finds rest in love, he becomes a qāṣid (one who intends), and this is contrary to what is customary. For the intention of those who intend either produces an effect in their outward being (ẓāhir) or serves as a proof concerning their inner being (bāṭin). For lovers, in their desires and actions, intend without any cause, and thus all their attributes become intending the beloved. (Hujwīrī, 472–473)
