Lights of the wind; the manifestation of the Name at a distance. These are manifestations that do not require to be spoken of. These lights come only to those who possess manifestation (tajallī) and inspiration (ilhām). In the lights of the angels, there is an entryway for manifestation in this regard. However, this is especially inward (bāṭin), not outward (ẓāhir). These are the angels who are with human beings, or particularly those who transmit inspiration or such manifestations to the nafs (the lower self). Khawāṭir (passing thoughts or inspirations) arise from these manifestations.
Indeed, these khawāṭir are like winds, for winds do not remain in one place but pass by. If someone claims that it is fixed, then it is not a wind. For this reason, it is described as passing, and thus it is called khawāṭir. It is then derived from rāḥa-yarūḥu. Rāʾiḥ (one who walks) means one who does not remain still.
The manifestation in the lights of nature (ṭabīʿa) is a composite (murakkab) and formal (shaklī) manifestation, and is given from the types of maʿrifa (gnosis, experiential knowledge of God) according to the forms that appear therein. This manifestation encompasses the heavens and the entire cosmos, from the celestial spheres down to the lowest insects. This is the heaven and the world. Thus, meanings, languages, the supplications (dua) and glorifications (tasbīḥ) of all beings are known from this manifestation. This manifestation is very exalted, beneficial, and supportive. The one who is subject to unveiling (kashf) sees in that manifestation the harmony of the cosmos and that there is no contradiction therein. (Futūḥāt, II, 478-479)
