Vasl is the perception of the unseen (ghayb). (Iṣṭilāḥ, 536)
According to the community of Sufis, vasi is the perception of that which has passed; that is, it is to reach one’s past breaths. The following verse alludes to this: Allah will replace their evil deeds with good (al-Furqan 25:70). The reason for this is that every ḥāl (spiritual state) has its own unique breath. Moreover, this breath encompasses all the rulings that pertain to the breaths taken by the one who breathes. All of them are beneficial to him; none is separated from the other. This is the view of a particular group. If a person is constantly oriented toward Allah, but then turns away from Him even for the blink of an eye, what is lost in that instant is far greater than what is gained. This matter concerns the realization of uninterrupted vasl after its establishment.
