It is the attribute that manifests (tajalli) and is established in every particle of existence. Nothing has any reality without it; nothing is affirmed without it. The gaze of the sālik (wayfarer) and the sādiq (truthful one) who walks toward Allah is not upon the outward form of things, but only upon the transcendent qayyūmiyya (self-subsistence) that is manifest (zāhir) in things. For this reason, the gaze of the sādiq people of witnessing (mushāhada) is directed solely toward Allah. They do not receive (their spiritual effusion) from anything other than Allah. They are, eternally and at every moment, in the presence of Allah. They see things only through Him. (Nafahāt, 59)
