According to us, hawā (whim/desire) is nothing but the first occurrence of love in the heart of the lover (muḥibb), rather than anything else. If nothing else mixes with this love and it becomes a quality unique to it alone, it is called ḥubb (love). If this love becomes firmly established in the qalb (the heart), it is then called vüdd. If this love encompasses the entire being of the lover, it is then called ʿishq (passionate love). (Tercümān, 14)
Vüdd: There is a divine name derived from this root, which is al-Wadūd. Vüdd, on the other hand, is one of His attributes. This attribute is firmly established in Him. Since it is also firmly established on earth, it is called vüdd because of this. (Futūḥāt, TI, 318)
vülü and garām: Vülü and garām have the same meaning, and are used in the forms 'āghrama bi'sh-shayʾ' or 'walaʿa bihi vülüʿan', meaning something that does not separate from its owner, something closely attached to it. (Rawḍa, 346)
