It is the perception of things. For this reason, ascetics (zāhids) cannot comprehend the true aim. (Kavânin, 27)

The mere ascetic, having abandoned burdens, is at rest. The burden of family matters has been lightened for him. Provided it is lawful, his clothing is his bed, his cover is his fabric.

Tahrir: The flowers of the world wither quickly. Whoever is enamored of them becomes bewitched. The world is fatigue and hardship. The life of the people of the hereafter is joy and happiness. The people of the world are slaves to afflictions. The people of the hereafter, however, have been freed from the garment of akhlāq (morality). Whoever's concern is the world is a slave to the nafs (the lower self); he cannot live without the filth of the nafs. Whoever's concern is the hereafter, his rūḥ (spirit) is an angelic rūḥ; he cannot be at ease without that pleasant fragrance to which he is accustomed.

Tahrir: The world is one of the glimmers of the hereafter. As if (the coming of the hereafter) were impossible, even if the lifespan between these two is long, complain to Allah about your present state. (Kavânin, 26)

Zumurrud: Zumurrud is the Universal Soul (Kullī Nafs). (Istilāh, 537; Kāshānī, 55; Jāmiʿ, 75)

Dhunūb: Dhunūb al-jawāriḥ; dhunūb al-ḍamīr

Dhunūb al-jawāriḥ and dhunūb al-ḍamīr (sins of the body and conscience): arrogance, envy, schadenfreude (rejoicing at the misfortune of one you dislike), suspicion, self-admiration, and ostentation. (Riʿāya 11)

Sins (dhunūb) are divided into three categories. The first is abandoning acts of worship that Allah the Exalted has made obligatory for you, such as prayer, fasting, zakāt (almsgiving), and expiation. You must perform these at every opportunity.

The second is sins that are between you and Allah. These are acts such as drinking alcohol, playing musical instruments, and consuming usury. You must repent of these and resolve in your heart never to commit them again.

The third are sins that occur between you and other people. These are very difficult and complex. Among them are matters such as property, nafs, honor, sacred things, and religion. (Minhāj, 11)
