It is a month. Rajab is the month in which Allah multiplies good deeds many times over; Shaʿbān is the month in which sins are forgiven; and Ramaḍān is the month in which karāma (a saintly wonder; here: divine generosity and forgiveness) is expected. Rajab is for the sābiqūn (those who are foremost in good deeds), Shaʿbān for the muqtaṣid (those who are moderate in their devotion), and Ramaḍān for the sabiq (those who excel).
