Dhū’l-ʿaql is one who perceives creation (khalq) as the outward (zāhir) and the Real (Ḥaqq) as the inward (bāṭin). According to him, the Real becomes the mirror of creation (khalq). For the mirror veils the form that appears outwardly. In that place, the Absolute (the Unrestricted Essence) is veiled by the restricted (the restricted is creation). (Kāshānī, 162; Jāmiʿ, 83)
